Reading this: real SOUL BOOM. God, baby, and bathwater are all thrown out these days. It’s hard to find people who are defrosted enough to notice how frozen we are in our lives of repetition. A real meeting of people? Discussion of nondualism, comedy as moral work? Sign up this fellow Gordon alum and seeker: this lands and lifts the heart.
God as the punchline makes perfect sense to me. After all, what is enlightenment if not the moment the ego slips on a banana peel?
Pete’s journey from mafia-God to non-dual awareness sounds like the prodigal son returning home and realizing he was never not home. And Rainn naming laughter as spiritual practice? That’s gospel. The kind that tickles and transforms.
Sometimes the holiest sound isn’t a chant. It’s a belly laugh in the middle of a cosmic paradox.
As such a hopeful example of the humility of the divine, Jesus joined humankind in our miseries, joys and everything in between. I personally can picture Jesus actually enjoying a healthy laugh over a good albeit-clean joke with his disciples, now and then. But few theists seem able to imagine the divine having a good sense of humor.
Therefore, Jesus may have been viciously killed because he did not in the least behave in accordance to corrupted human conduct and expectation — and in particular because he was nowhere near being the angry and sometimes even bloodthirsty behemoth so many theists seemingly wanted or needed their Creator and savior to be and therefore believed he’d have to be.
My favorite part of the episode is when Pete means to yes-and Rainn’s sports betting riff, but says Reality Kings (a porn site) instead of Draftkings (a sports betting site). Sacred / profane, baby!
You know that scene in Miss Congeniality when Sandra Bullock has become a finalist, nails her on stage interview, then turns to the host and says something like "and if someone tried to hurt one of my new friends, I would hunt them down." That's how I felt at the end of the podcast when Pete says as he and Rainn shake hands "let's agree we'll do ketamine together" or something like that. I was like, Huh? That was intense and dissonant. And I wish the podcast hadn't ended on that note.

Love the pic of the 3 of you at the bottom of the email. Precious. 🫶
We love it too! Also totally remember you—the clever one who correctly guessed who our secret guest was!

Interesting to read.
You should read my work, I've written a bit about religion.

I love everything about it otherwise!
Well, not for nothing, but Pete’s podcast IS called “You Made It Weird”—so pretty on brand, if you ask us 😉
Thanks for sticking with us through all the weirdness 🦄😵💫💥
Great job going live 👏🏽😅✨
Fair enough 😂.
